Shereel Washington

Shereel Washington is a certified herbalist, professional dancer, instructor and choreographer, and martial artist. She is a progressive student at the California School of Herbal Studies with certificates in Body Systems and Herbal Crafting. She also operates a home based business, IXALTED Natural Body & Botanicals, in Oakland, CA. In February, she was a guest speaker for the Wise Womb Way Virtual Symposium and last year on the Women of Color panel on Racism: “Do You Walk In Our Shoes” at The Fall Herbal Symposium 2018.

Shereel’s dance experience spans 38 years of training, performance, and choreography in a wide range of dance styles and traditions such as: modern, ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, traditional Congolese & Senegalese, African Diasporic Genres, and Hula. She teaches and performs throughout the U.S. and Hawai’i, having won critical accolades for major performances in the New York Times and the San Francisco Chronicle. She has also been recognized as a pioneer in the Christian & Praise Dance genres.

Shereel co-founded IXALT in 2003, a performing arts organization whose motto is ‘s_h_a_r_i_n_g_ _t_h_e_ _A_r_t_s_,_ _s_h_a_r_i_n_g_ _T_h_e_ _G_o_s_p_e_l_’, through Dance, Music, Song, and Spoken Word In 2005 she co-founded The Black Choreographers Festival. In 2006, and she co-curated the Choreo-Fest at the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival in San Francisco. Shereel also served on the Board of Directors for the San Francisco International Arts Festival 2004-2007.

Shereel studied White Crane Silat Indonesian Kung Fu under Peter Ajemian at Soja Mind Body where she serves as a trainer in the youth martial arts program. Over the past two years she has developed a successful introductory martial arts curriculum for young children called “Martial Arts Kids Play (MAKP)”, which is being taught in after school programs and family fitness studios in the Bay Area. Shereel continues her martial arts training under Master Sheldon Callahan in Shaolin Kung Fu at Shaolin Life in Oakland, CA.

Shereel is on a mission to pursue the possibilities, with each talent she develops and discovers, to be a positive change agent in the lives of people.
