The lymphatic system is called Rasa in Sanskrit, meaning the river of life. Keeping this river flowing allows our tissues to receive nourishment, which is the secret to being and looking healthy. There will be demonstrations on how to map the lymphatic system in your body with an emphasis on breast health. There will be time for Q &A about our breasts and immunity, massage assessments for experiential learning & what tools can support change and prevent diseases. First we will learn about the traditional way of looking at how the elements of ether, air, fire, water and earth impact our bodies and look at where hot, cold, wet, and dry live in the body in health and in disharmony. These basic elements that make up our universe, internal and external, are how all traditional medicine people's have viewed the way our body interacts with our environment. We will look from both an Ayurvedic perspective and a Western Eclectic tradition at tissue states, the rhythms and cycles of the seasons, the moon, human development, and internal bodily functions.
Second we will talk about Flavors of plants and taste a number of medicinals. The flavor profiles of the plants tell us a lot about the medicine contained within each herb. We can use Flavors of plants to inform how we treat an illness, by balancing hot, cold, wet and dry of the tissues with opposing plant profiles. This is a great way to utilize our own bodies to understand the medicines on a different level. This tasting and experiential recognizing of the plants is called organoleptics, which is a legally scientific way of proving you have the plant in front of you that you claim for GMP standards of medicine making.
This is a fun hands on class where we will learn to use medicinal herbs and apply their actions based on flavor profiles.
Most of us have learned that bacteria and viruses are detrimental to our health. Research has finally caught up with ancient wisdom that we need microbes in and on our bodies for health. The Human Microbiome project is one study to document the diversity of microbes that live harmoniously with humans and how they impact our health on many levels. Diversity of microbes means better wellness for our entire being of physical emotional and spiritual health. Just as greater diversity in our gardens and in our communities means greater health for the whole, so too greater diversity of microbes on our bodies can be for our deeper immunity.
We will talk about problems with antibiotics including resistant strains of bacteria, new potential options of microphages, and immune-building herbs. By changing our language from "anti-microbial" to "microbe-composters" we begin to reflect how herbs can work in our bodies to creat good "soil" on our skin and in our gut for beneficial bacteria to grow. We will also look at how the macrobiome of our environment can benefit our microbiome- hugging trees IS good for your health.
Finally we will talk about traditionally fermented foods and pre- and probiotic plants that feed and nourish our microbiome and thus our overall health.
We will explore this powerful plant ally by first going on a walk about to see if we can find her. We will observe the environment in which she grows, gaining greater awareness of plant communities and how they help us understand the qualities and uses of the plants. We will then sit together and hear tales of the mighty Artemis, for whom this plant is named. We will learn about some of the traditional and common uses of Mugwort and end the class by creating beautiful dream pillows to take home.
Digestive health and emotional well-being are deeply intertwined. In this class we’ll overview the brain-gut-microbial axis and how it impacts both the digestion of food and of emotion. We’ll explore tools for interacting with the digestive nervous system, including breath techniques, self massage and herbal strategies.

It is always better to know how to tie a knot and not need it, than to need a knot and not know how to tie it. Ever wanted to know how to tie the Alpine Butterfly Loop? How about the Chain Sinnet Knot? Have you lusted after the Zepplin Bend? Been intrigued by the Timber Hitch? Or maybe you just want to be solid with the Square Knot because that Granny just won’t stay tied? You might just want the practical knowledge of how to put up a shelter with tarp, poles and rope? Tie your load? Secure your canoe to the car rack? Tie the dog to a tree? We will start simple. We will get in as many knots as we can. We will all work together. It will be fun. It will be useful.
To tie a knot is to access ancient knowledge. It could be about beauty. It could be totally about function and end up being a thing of beauty. Or some knots are just a tangle of grief. Come learn. Come practice.

We will stretch and move our bodies as we explore what it means to be a Heart Warrior. Am I strong enough to be soft? Can I listen to the messages of my heart and body? Often that takes strength and determination, especially when faced with conflict or the pull of what others want us to do. Through fun and engaging games, yoga and activities, we explore the senses, make contact with our heart center, use our voices, tap into our super powers and find our power pose. We will share a guided meditation and teach some tools for relaxing, centering, and finding resources within. This intent of this class is to help us remember all we know about being an amazing friend, first to ourselves and then to others. In circle we will explore how we can be our unique selves and connect with friends. Our goal is for each of us to leave the class feeling more relaxed, aware of our bodies, appreciative of who we are and open to connecting with others.
