Maria Mariposa

Maria was born and raised in Costa Rica, where she grew up deeply connected to the land and the plants around her. This connection was nurtured by her mama and abuela, who spent their days gardening, tending the earth, and working with herbs. From them, Maria learned that the land holds both wisdom and medicine.

Maria is an intuitive herbalist and avid gardener who blends ritual, tradition, and ancestral knowledge into her herbal preparations, elixirs, and original recipes. She works with what is available in each season, allowing the plants to guide her process. Through natural extraction methods and simple preparations, she creates remedies that support the immune system, the mind, and the heart.

Today, Maria is living what she lovingly calls her “green witch” dream. She resides in a small cabin among the ancient redwoods, with a lively creek flowing nearby. Rooted in the earth and guided by nature, Maria embraces her identity as a Bruja—honoring her cultural traditions of tending the land with respect, gratitude, and love.

Maria is deeply passionate about childbirth and maternal care. She believes strongly in women’s empowerment, preventative health, and nurturing a meaningful connection with oneself and with Mother Earth.

You’ll often find Maria laughing, whispering chismes, sharing her heart, and reminding her community of their strength and power. She embodies the spirit of the Goddess and the Latinx Bruja, always creating medicine and art with her hands.

Her offerings include visually magical crafts, jewelry, and homegrown herbal products, each made with intention and care.

Maria carries a deep love for her Latinx heritage and culture, and she looks forward to sharing that spirit with others at this year’s Women’s Herbal Symposium
