Carole Addison-Goyne

Carole has been immersed in the aromatherapy, botanical perfumery, and natural products field for over three decades. She is the Founder of Nomad Botanicals, a luxury company devoted to scent as a practice of wellbeing, ritual, and personal expression, where botanical materials are shaped into immersive experiences as well as finely crafted offerings.

She is also actively involved in the stewardship and educational work of Original Swiss Aromatics, a 43-year-old California-based company, internationally respected for its scientific rigor and therapeutic aromatherapy focus. Original Swiss Aromatics was founded by aromatherapy pioneer and author, Kurt Schnaubelt, PhD, with whom Carole has shared a decades-long professional relationship that continues to inform the scientific and educational foundations of her work.

Across these roles, Carole’s practice bridges classical aromatherapy, botanical perfumery, and modern sensory experience. She teaches extensively through classes, workshops, and immersive programs, and leads both domestic and international retreats centered on scent, plant intelligence, and ritual. Her teaching emphasizes the relationship between aromatic chemistry, therapeutic application, and sensory perception, translating complex scientific principles into embodied and experiential learning.

Carole’s approach to botanical perfumery has also been shaped through decades of study and practice in natural perfumery, including extensive training with Mandy Aftel, whose influence is woven into her teaching of perfume as both craft and contemplative art.

A formative chapter of Carole’s professional life was her fifteen-year tenure in executive leadership with Aveda, where she was influenced by the pioneering botanical legacy of founder, Horst Rechelbacher. This experience helped shape her understanding of how botanical integrity, education, and business stewardship can coexist with scale and cultural impact.

In addition to her work with Nomad Botanicals and Original Swiss Aromatics, Carole is part of the educational team for Land of Verse, where her contributions center on aromatherapy within a broader framework of plant-centered learning, ancestry, and relationship

Over the years, Carole and her husband, Scott, have distilled essential oils together in California and abroad and have participated in the development of medicinal and aromatic plants through a USAID project in Morocco. Alongside her work with plants, Carole earned her MBA, an experience that continues to inform the thoughtful and values-driven way she builds businesses, educational programs, and retreats.

Through these collective experiences, Carole’s work continues to evolve as a living expression of devotion to plants, scent, and the journeys they inspire. Guiding others into deeper relationship with scent, and sharing the intelligence of plants through practice, education, and ritual, remains her ongoing passion.
